Japan Trip May 2010 Part 1

Back in May 2010, Tomoyo and I went to Japan for another vacation. We tend to go on a lot of vacations this year ^^;;. It’s like we gotta be our previous years number of trips xD. It was a trip with beginnings and endings.

Let’s start off with food, though we really should get that food blog up ^^;;. We have a ton of food pics lined up for that blog, but we’ll save that for another time.

We got business class again on our trip, which makes a big difference when flying six hours.

Ahh, nuts, they’re best warm. We also had orange juice and sparkling wine.

For our appetizer we had a smoked salmon sushi roll, garlic chive and tomato layer egg, edamame, and pickled vegetables. On the side was iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing and a sweet bread roll.

As I got the Japanese set, it came with it’s own appetizer. For this appetizer set we had layered egg, simmered duck with karashi miso, smoked salmon with layered egg, teriyaki glazed calamari, grilled scallop, marinated crab leg, more pickled vegetables, and cha-soba noodles with simmered oyster mushrooms.

For the main course of the Japanese set, it had chicken miso yuan yaki, tori gin an, simmered burdock and daikon, and sugar snap peas and carrot flower served with steam rice.

Tomoyo had the pan-seared filet mignon with bbq guave glaze served with grilled sweet potato and Tahitian green beans.

For dessert we had 4 year aged cheddar and St. Rocco Triple Crème served with grapes and crackers.

Before we landed we had chicken katsu curry with fresh fruit on the side.

A interesting image Tomoyo saw in a magazine on the plane. Wonder if it’s just photoshopped xD?

Going through the Narita Airport Arrivals hallway.

KitKat’s you can buy from a vending machine in a container.

As we had some time before our train to take us to Tokyo would arrive, we went to Starbucks to get a drink.

We got the Mango Passion Tea Frappuccino Blended Juice Drink, try say that five times fast xD.

It was alright, more like a mango smoothie ^^;;.

I believe Japan is getting more visitors from China and Korea as I never noticed the information display on the train have either language on my previous trips. Btw, this is also the start time of the train leaving from our airport train terminal.

I believe there might have been a “human accident” during that time as shown below.

The time we reached Tokyo Station, took one hour and four minutes. I think it’s usually a little shorter but that accident may have slowed us down a bit.

Our next destination on our train was Shibuya which we reached six minutes later.

Our final destination on our train was Shinjuku which we reached eight minutes after Shibuya. We got off at Shinjuku because our hotel was located in Shinjuku.

Some cats tied to a leash xD.

A high school(?) girl that we saw that was wearing a uniform that we thought resembled the uniforms worn by the girls from K-On.

After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we left to shop. We left for Shibuya for first.

A mannaquin that we saw on top of a store sign.

We went to Shibuya first as we needed to go to a couple of stores. First was Mandarake with a very different store front.

A very interesting walkway that leads down from the store front, eerily lit in green xD. The steps were pretty steep and it went deep below street level.

After we finished going through Mandarake we went to the Disney Store in Shibuya to purchase our tickets for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea as we learned from our first trip that we don’t actually have to be in Disneyland to buy it.

There were lots of pretty cool and detailed displays inside the store. You can notice the change on the screen of a certain game which is a nice attention to detail.

Outside the store was pretty cool too.

We saw this huge honey toast sign next door and were hungry for it as it’s one of our favorite things to eat at this one restaurant where we live.

KFC is pretty popular in Japan, as you can see this KFC in Shibuya has been around since April 25th, 1985, and being store number 500 must be pretty awesome xD.

A few store with English names.

Shibuya crossing which is busy as ever ^^;;.

Was waiting for the train to come. Lots of people on their cell. phones xD.

We went to Harajuku next as Tomoyo wanted to shop for Lolita clothes. I wanted to go there for Daiso xD.

We were getting hungry and got a Doner Kebob. The smell was always enticing so we decided to get one. The meat was a bit dry but the sauce was good.

Pictures of the Tamogotchi store.

A melon drink we purchased from Daiso, it wasn’t half bad and had the melon flavor I love.

A overview of some snacks/food we purchased from a konbini down the street. Remember, you can ask for the food that’s meant to be eaten warm (like the pasta below) to be warmed up, though the clerks at this konbini asked if I wanted it warm and I just nodded as I assumed they asked if I wanted it warmed up ^^;;.

The Framboise flavored KitKat had a nice sweet yet tart flavor to it.

Salami with cheese and cream sauce pasta.

Shrimp and bacon(ham) with tomato sauce pasta.

Beef jerky.

Cheese cake.

Tapioca in coconut milk.

Corn beef and mayonnaise chips.

That’s the end of our day, look forward to the rest of our trip post coming soon.

I didn’t know there was a Mandarake store in Shibuya, I missed that when I went. There are surprisingly a lot of doner places in Tokyo, I think they’re all part of the same company though.

Mandarake is all over it seems. xD I think there used to be more, though. The nice thing about the Shibuya location is that everything is right there. It’s not like in Nakano Broadway where you have to wander from store to store, which is kind of a pain. It’s also nice to ring all your items up once rather than having to go stand in line to pay for your things each time.

Never tried any other doner place so I’ll need to keep alert next time I go to see where they are. Though I can always follow my nose xD.

Corn beef and mayo chips? LOL I love it. Also I have a sneaking suspicion that when I go to Japan the food served on my 15 hour flight won’t look nearly as good as yours. When I need to fly to California on business that’s usually a 6+ hour flight and all they give are chips and drinks.

    • AS says:

Ahhh, that’s too bad. Though I’ve had pretty good food on ANA economy, better than what Continental used to serve, which I really liked so it depends on who you choose to fly with I guess. Though you should get food, unless you’re flying red eye then maybe not, depends on the time you land.

Man, you guys really do go one so many trips. For being a trip to Japan that reproduction fo Andy’s room is really what caught my eye the most from the this set of pictures.
