Recently, Iron Chef Morimoto was in town. He had a few public appearances, among them, book signings for his cookbook, Morimoto: The New Art of Japanese Cooking. AS and I both enjoy the original and current Iron Chef shows on the Food Network, so we decided to go. Originally we had only heard about one book signing in an area where parking was pretty bad, but luckily, the night before, I found out he was going to be at a mall that had better parking and was also closer to us. We couldn’t not go after that. xD
AS went to stand in line for us, so I proceeded to stand in front and take a lot of pictures. ^^; I know Morimoto isn’t as pretty as Kago Ai, but enjoy the pictures.

They would write the name on the post-it to ensure names were spelled correctly.

Even Morimoto poses for pictures like this. xD
It took a lot of patience piggy-backing on someone’s picture to get one of Morimoto by himself. I got a lot of people’s backside. ^^;

AS with Morimoto.

I wanted to wear a food related lolita dress, but I don’t have anything with sushi on it, so I settled for cupcakes.

AS with the signed cookbook.

even though I don’t know him, but seems fun to have your book signed by the author.

Ah, sorry, I wasn’t sure how far reaching Iron Chef has extended beyond the US and Japan. But yeah, it is cool to get books autographed. In the future though, I would like to know in advance so I can buy the book discounted online. xD
It was interesting ^^. Since we watched him for years now ^^.
Wow, he looks so old now.

I wanted to visit an iron chef restaurant in Japan, but I couldn’t convince any of my friends to go with me because of the price
Maybe next time I’ll try for one of Morimoto’s restaurants the next time I’m in the States

Yes, I was struck by his age in person. Based on the Food Network bio, he should be 55 now. He doesn’t look that much older on TV, though you can see the difference from the Japanese Iron chef show vs the American Iron Chef.
I don’t know how much cheaper the US restaurants will be, but the Euro is stronger than the US Dollar, so maybe it will feel cheaper than in Japan. ^^;
Ya, I can still remember his days on the old Iron Chef that was filmed in Japan and can see how time has aged him. I wish they showed it again, I like it much better than the new one.
Oh wow, you met Chef Morimoto! I enjoy watching him on Iron Chef too and I always think his dishes are awesome! ^^

I like his food, too! I look forward to tasting them one day, but I expect his restaurants are in the $$$ category. :S
I think on the old Iron Chef he was known as someone who brought new creations to the challenge and stepped outside of the box for his cooking xD.
I’m actually reading Oishinbo right now, its gotten me enthusiastic about understanding Japanese cuisine better. Such a coincidence you posted about Morimoto! I can’t actually cook well myself but I like seeing cooking shows and manga.
AS is a better cook than I, but I still like watching and reading cooking related things, too.
I learned how to cook mostly from my parents. Though I do look up recipes online every now and then ^^. Following instructions is the best way to learn something and when you learn how you can adapt it to the way you like it and from what you learn from the recipes can be applied to original creations that you make yourself. Something I learned over the many years I’ve cooked lol.
The photos with the fountain in the back make him look like an epic God of Chefs or something. Surreal!

That’s not what I was thinking when I tried to get the fountain behind him but I’m glad it looks like an interesting effect. ^^;
I think he is lol. I don’t really like the other chefs on the American Iron Chef. Though I liked French on the Japanese Iron Chef.
lol i find it ironic that hes doing book signings at a food court.. but i guess its better than outside of victoria’s secret..

He wasn’t signing in the food court. He was on center stage actually. This mall isn’t particularly big so there is no food court, they’re just spread out.
The bookstore that brought him there is on mall property, but is a separate building not attached to the rest of the stores. Neither of us have been to a book signing so we don’t know if they usually do it at center stage or if it’s because Chef Morimoto would appeal to a wider audience if they knew he was there so they did it in the center of the mall instead of inside the bookstore.
Haha, we actually do have a victoria’s secret, though it’s at another mall xD.
